Peace Runners meet with Mayor Denise Knight

Peace Runners meet with Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight

Friday, May 27, 2016

Members of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run will meet with Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight on Friday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m. at Coffs Harbour City Council Administrative Centre, Crn Coff and Castle Streets, Coffs Harbour.

The mayor will be presented with a flaming Peace Torch — symbol of the international Peace Run — the same type of torch held by Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Princess Diana.

This annual global relay event seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. Since its inception in 1987, the Run has traversed over 100 nations and touched the lives of millions of people. The Peace Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill among peoples of all nations.

30th Anniversary

Next year is the 30th anniversary of the Peace Run and Coffs Harbour will play an important part in the celebrations. The anticipated arrival date of the Peace Run in Coffs Harbour next year is May 2, as the relay makes its way from Brisbane to Perth.

Peace Talk — Thursday, June 16, 2016

A special talk and multi-media presentation about the Peace Run and its founder Sri Chinmoy will be held at the Coffs Harbour campus of Southern Cross University — Lecture theatre D350,
 Block D — on Thursday, June 16, at 9:30 a.m.

The presentation is part of a series of 40 Peace Talks to be held at universities around Australia over the next year, commemorating the anniversary of the first visit to Australia in 1976 of the Peace Run’s founder Sri Chinmoy.
